Had a great experience they worked on my mini split unit for my hair salon I highly recommend people schedule a consultantion and getting all your air problems fixed by them!
A/C had been out for a couple days. Heat index 105° , 90 ° in house. I called 15 + HVAC companies and the earliest appointment time anybody could come was a week away. I called Barneys . He shot me straight and told me " I'll get you up and going today but it's going to be in the evening." He showed up about 7 pm which is perfectly fine as it was hot. He fixed the problem in 15 mins ( needed refrigerant ) He charged a very fair price. He stands by his word. LIFESAVER!! VERY COOL NOW!!!
I am very pleased with this company and the service provided. I appreciate how smooth and hassle-free the whole process was. They really go above and beyond for their customers. I would recommend jake and his team to all my friends and family. Thanks jake for your great service.

Loved working with Jake. Was able to find the problem about my ac the night before & had it fixed the next morning! & reasonably priced as well. Thank you for your service!
Incredibly responsive, communicative and diligent service. I highly recommend for anyone who needs work on their home. They also showed genuine compassion and advocated for change with our landlord when they worked on our A/C unit.
Service was quick and he was very professional and gave me great follow up information going forward on handling my cooling and heating needs
Jake the owner changed out my unit by himself in a very efficient time, very kind, and explained why my old unit went out, he was the fairest price I could find for getting the main job done! Hard worker replaced my unit in 88° weather, I will continue to use his company as my go too for my home and future needs

I called around 6pm with no heat. Jake offered same day and next day options. his price was very cost efficient. I cannot thank this company enough for the quick service changing my motor-board. He communicated very professionally with him.
This crew helped get my heat working within 2 hours of me calling them. They knew exactly what to ask to come prepared to make the repair. I cannot thank these men enough for restoring my heat in this cold weather.
Jake and the team were excellent! They were able to get the unit installed and made all requested adjustments, even after the installation! They will definitely be our "GO TO" for any heating needs!
I contacted them and within 45 minutes Jacob arrived ready and prepared to look at our A/c unit. Fair priced, friendly, efficient and careful to not misdiagnose the issue.
Excellent service! I called After 5 PM with a down AC unit looking for a diagnostic visit with possible fix. He offered same day and next day options. When he came out and completed the diagnostic, he said he could fix it right away. It Took him less than 30 minutes to get my unit running. Plus it was extremely affordable! Highly recommend, and will definitely use for any future services. Thank you so much!
They came out located the problem cleaned it and the tech mark did an amazing job. He was friendly and fast and he kept me updated on what he was doing . 10/10 highly recommend
Called the morning after July 4th and they were able to come out right away. He was prompt, courteous, and communicated updates from the time I requested him to come out to arrival and the fix. He quickly assessed and fixed the issue we were having with our outside unit and verified it was working before leaving. He also offered suggestions for another unrelated issue I am having with our damper. I plan to reach out again for any future a/c needs. Thank you!
Extraordinarily helpful! Arrived, diagnosed and repaired our AC promptly all in one trip and for a great price! I will use them for all of our hvac repairs from now on.

Great experience. They showed up when they said they would and did a great job installing 2 mini split units right where we needed them to go. I Highly recommend their service.
They did really great job with very reasonable price. They were communicating very well with me compared to other HVAC companies that either don't answer the phone or don't even reply to text.
Fantastic communication and fast service! I will be using Barney’s for future HVAC needs.
Needed service in a pinch and this company was there to help out immediately. If you’re looking to support a small, local business, and get it done right, look no further!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! My A/C went out late Friday night and not many companies were wanting to help and look at my unit until after the weekend and holiday was over, but Barney’s heating and air responded ASAP, and was here first thing in the morning on Saturday! The technician gave me an exact time and was here on time, other companies gave me a big time frame/window 8am-6pm and that just didn’t work for us. This company is affordable and willing to work with you. Definitely will call them again!! Thank you!
Didn't stopped coming to work on it till it was fully fixed highly recommend
Service was AMAZING!!! Especially on a weekend. Found the issue right away and had our A/C running again. I would highly recommend Barney's Heating and Air over anyone I've dealt with in clarksville. Price was great. We are enrolling in his service care for twice a year service for a great price!!!! Again I would recommend him over anyone!!!
Barney and his team was professional, on time, and worked with the other foreman (foundation repair) on site in order to get my foundation repaired correctly and removed, then reinstalled new ductwork after the foundation was repaired. Due to his efforts, I was able to have 2 projects done at the same time and for a fraction of the cost in a total of 2 days. Highly recommend.
Technician knew immediately what the problem was, had the needed parts with him, and fixed the problem in less than an hour.
This isn’t just a review, it’s a debt of personal gratitude. These guys came out and replaced the HVAC system in my rental house in absolutely no time flat. They were able to work with me in the kind of way humans should work with one other, when it really counts. I am extremely grateful for their help with this project, and they have 100% earned all of my future business - barre none
First time (in this house) getting our heat pump inspected. Technician was detailed in explaining what was both good & bad about our 12 year-old system. He explained that our system was still functional but also showed us a part that might fail in the future. He tested the part in our presence & gave us a fair price for replacement (which we did). We were comfortable enough with the service that we are likely to purchase a service/maintenance agreement this Fall.
Excellent service from an honest professional. No one likes having to get an AC replaced, but Barney’s makes it less painful. Extremely responsive (at any time you need him), he will be honest, fair, and provide you a range of options without the up-sale you’d get elsewhere. His work is top notch quality, this is the 3rd time we have used him for our rentals and will continue to do so in the future. Highly recommend for your AC/HVAC needs.
PLUMBERS, Too! I just bought a house and didn’t know the pipes were clogged, the tub had a slow flow, and that the faucets were offset. In addition to heating and cooling, Jake has plumbers on hand. He and his crew did a good job, were friendly, and easy to communicate with.
The communication, fast response, and customer service is what will bring me back. I will definitely call them again to schedule my yearly unit cleaning and any repairs that come up. Highly recommend! Thank you guys!
Amazing!!!! Fast response! Same day service! Very very reasonable prices! Loved his mannerisms when you call his phone! Very respectful He knew what was wrong with my hvac system within a few mins. Purchased my parts and fixed my unit same day!!!! I appreciate this company!!! Would recommend to all my friends and family!
I don’t think any else would have come out any quicker or for a better price than these guys. Did a wonderful job and were straight forward and honest

Awesome customer service! I called with a problem with my furnace, and he helped me fix it over the phone. Southern hospitality at it's finest. I'm scheduling a furnace service ASAP from him because I definitely want to give him my business!
Local company with great working knowledge. We had a heat bank out in our furnace which they troubleshot and fixed within the week (had to order parts). Heat is now working in the house and we appreciate the service!
I was having problems with my HVAC system and I called these guys to come check it out. Bobby and Jacob are very down to Earth guys. Bobby was very upfront about what issues I had with my system and gave me recommendations without feeling like they were trying to push anything on me. I was impressed with the knowledge he had and how fair their pricing was. I'm a single woman that lives alone with my children and I did not once feel uncomfortable with them or feel like they were trying to get over on me. They ended up installing a new unit in my home and did an amazing job. I have not had one issue with it since. I would def. recommend this company to anyone I know! Thank you guys!!
Jake was awesome! Very professional and very easy to work with. Communication was the best I’ve ever had. Will go back and call again. I would highly recommend to friends and family.

Mini Split Installation
The mini split installation process begins with a thorough consultation to design the perfect system for your space. Unlike central systems, mini splits offer zoned comfort, and planning is key. Our specialist will visit your Clarksville home to discuss your goals. We determine whether you need a single zone system for one area, like a new addition or garage, or a multi zone system to control the temperature in several different rooms independently. We will assess each room, or “zone,” to calculate the heating and cooling load and determine the proper size, or BTU capacity, for each indoor unit. This ensures each space gets the right amount of conditioning.
Once we have a design plan, we help you select the best location for both the indoor and outdoor units. The indoor units, often called “heads,” are typically mounted high on a wall for optimal air distribution. We will work with you to find a location that is both effective and aesthetically pleasing. The outdoor condenser unit needs to be placed on a solid, level surface, such as a concrete pad or wall brackets. We will find a discreet location that complies with manufacturer clearance requirements and minimizes any noise impact. Careful placement is essential for both performance and your satisfaction with the finished look.
On installation day, our technicians begin by mounting the equipment. We will securely install the mounting bracket for the indoor unit on the chosen wall. A small hole, typically about three inches in diameter, is then drilled through the wall directly behind where the unit will be mounted. This hole allows the refrigerant lines, electrical wiring, and condensate drain line to pass through to the outside. We take great care during this step to be neat and precise. The outdoor unit is then set on its prepared pad or attached to its wall brackets.
Next, we run the line set that connects the indoor and outdoor units. This bundled line set contains the copper refrigerant tubing, the control wiring, and the drain line. We carefully route it from the indoor head, through the hole in the wall, and down the exterior of your home to the outdoor condenser. We often use a protective and paintable plastic conduit, called a line hide, to cover the line set on the outside of your home. This provides a clean, professional finish and protects the lines from weather and UV damage.
With the lines run, our technicians make the critical refrigerant and electrical connections. The copper refrigerant lines are flared and connected to the service valves on both the indoor and outdoor units using precise torque specifications to ensure a leak proof seal. The low voltage control wiring is connected between the units, allowing the indoor head to communicate with the outdoor condenser. High voltage electrical power is then run from your home’s breaker panel to a new safety disconnect switch near the outdoor unit, and then to the unit itself. All electrical work is performed to strict safety codes.
After all connections are made, we perform the essential steps of pressure testing and vacuuming the system. We pressurize the refrigerant lines with dry nitrogen to check for any leaks in our connections. Once we confirm the system is tight, we use a high powered vacuum pump to remove all air, moisture, and non condensables from the line set and indoor coil. This is a critical step that ensures the purity of the refrigerant circuit and the long term health of the compressor. A deep vacuum is the hallmark of a quality installation.
Finally, we release the factory refrigerant charge from the outdoor unit into the system and commission the unit. We will turn the system on and test its operation in all modes: cooling, heating, dry, and fan. We use our gauges and thermometers to verify that it is performing according to the manufacturer’s specifications. We will then show you how to operate your new system, including how to use the remote control, clean the filters, and use the various modes and features. Our job isn’t done until you are completely comfortable and satisfied with your new ductless mini split system.

Most Common Mini Split Installation Questions
Ductless mini splits are an increasingly popular choice for home comfort due to their high efficiency and flexibility. They are a great solution for homes without existing ductwork or for targeting specific comfort problems. As a newer technology for many homeowners, they often generate a lot of questions about how they work and what the installation involves.
The single biggest advantage of a ductless mini split system is its exceptional energy efficiency. Because there is no ductwork, you eliminate the energy losses that are common in central forced air systems. Leaky ducts can account for up to 30% of energy loss, meaning you are paying to heat and cool your attic or crawlspace. With a mini split, the conditioned air is delivered directly into the room from the indoor unit, so there is no waste. This, combined with their advanced inverter driven compressor technology, makes mini splits one of the most efficient ways to heat and cool your home, resulting in significant savings on your utility bills.
Another key benefit is the ability to create zoned comfort. With a multi zone mini split system, you can have multiple indoor units connected to a single outdoor unit, with each indoor unit having its own thermostat. This allows you to set a different temperature for each room or “zone.” You can cool your living room without having to over cool an unused guest bedroom, for example. This level of control not only enhances personal comfort for everyone in the house but also adds another layer of energy savings, as you are not wasting energy conditioning unoccupied spaces.
Finally, mini splits offer incredible flexibility in their installation. They are the perfect solution for homes that do not have existing ductwork, such as older homes with boiler heat or homes built on a slab foundation. They are also ideal for specific applications like heating and cooling a new home addition, a converted garage or attic, or a sunroom. The installation is much less invasive than adding a full duct system. The small three inch hole required for the line set is far less disruptive than the major construction required to install new ducts in walls and ceilings.
The number of indoor units, or heads, that you can connect to a single outdoor condenser depends on the specific model of the outdoor unit. This is a key consideration when designing a multi zone mini split system. Most major manufacturers offer a range of multi zone outdoor units that are designed to support anywhere from two to eight indoor units. This allows for a great deal of flexibility in creating a customized comfort solution for your home. You could have one unit in the master bedroom, one in the living room, and one in a home office, all running off a single, quiet outdoor condenser.
It is important to understand that the total capacity of all the connected indoor units can often exceed the total capacity of the outdoor unit. This is not a problem and is actually a common design practice. The system operates on the assumption that you will not typically be running all the indoor units at their maximum capacity at the same exact time. The outdoor unit’s inverter technology allows it to ramp its output up or down to match the combined demand of the indoor units that are currently calling for heating or cooling.
Our system designers at Barney’s Heating and Air will perform a careful load calculation for each zone and for the house as a whole. This ensures that we select an outdoor unit with enough capacity to meet your home’s peak demand while also choosing appropriately sized indoor units for each individual space. Proper system matching is critical for ensuring that your multi zone system operates efficiently and provides the comfort you expect in every room. We have the expertise to design a perfectly balanced system for your Clarksville home.
No, this is a common misconception. While they are excellent air conditioners, virtually all mini split systems sold in North America are actually heat pumps. This means they are designed to provide both high efficiency cooling in the summer and high efficiency heating in the winter. They work on the same principle as a conventional heat pump, by moving heat from one place to another. In the winter, they absorb heat from the outdoor air and move it inside to warm your home. This makes them a complete, all in one solution for year round comfort.
Modern mini splits, especially cold climate models, are remarkably effective at heating, even in very low outdoor temperatures. Many standard models can heat efficiently down to about 5 degrees Fahrenheit. There are also specialized “hyper heat” or low temperature models available that can provide significant heat output even when the outdoor temperature drops as low as 15 degrees below zero. For the climate in Clarksville, TN, a standard high efficiency mini split is more than capable of providing all the heating your home needs for the entire winter, and doing so with incredible energy efficiency.
This dual functionality is one of the greatest strengths of a ductless mini split system. You get a top tier air conditioner and a super efficient heater in one sleek, quiet package. This eliminates the need for a separate furnace and air conditioner, simplifying your home’s mechanical systems. Whether you are looking to supplement an existing system or provide the sole source of heating and cooling for a space, a mini split is a versatile and powerful choice for any season.
Ductless mini split systems offer a great deal of flexibility when it comes to placing the indoor units, but the most common and often most effective location is high on a wall. This is the “high wall” unit that most people picture when they think of a mini split. Placing the unit high on an exterior wall allows for easy routing of the line set and provides excellent, draft free air distribution throughout the room. The unit’s louvers can be adjusted to direct the conditioned air where it is needed most. This is the most popular and cost effective type of indoor unit.
However, manufacturers have developed several other styles of indoor units to provide more aesthetic options and solve different installation challenges. A “floor mount” unit is a great option for rooms with low, slanted ceilings, like a converted attic, or for replacing an old radiator. These units are installed at the base of a wall and are very effective at heating, as they deliver warm air at floor level. There are also “ceiling cassette” units, which are installed flush into the ceiling. These are very discreet and provide four way air delivery, making them ideal for large, open spaces.
For homeowners who want the benefits of a ductless system but do not want to see the indoor unit at all, there are even “concealed duct” or “slim duct” indoor units. These small, compact air handlers can be installed completely out of sight, such as above a closet ceiling or in a conditioned attic space. They then use short runs of small, flexible ductwork to deliver air to the room through discreet, conventional looking ceiling or floor vents. At Barney’s Heating and Air, we can discuss all these options with you to find the perfect style of indoor unit to match your Clarksville home’s decor and layout.
One of the major advantages of a ductless mini split installation is that it is significantly less invasive than installing a traditional central air conditioning system with ductwork. The entire connection between the indoor and outdoor units requires only a single, small hole through your wall. This hole is typically only about three inches in diameter. This is a stark contrast to the large-scale cutting into walls and ceilings that is often required to run the bulky ductwork for a central system. This makes mini splits an ideal choice for retrofitting older homes with plaster walls or for any situation where you want to minimize disruption.
Our installation team at Barney’s Heating and Air takes great care to make the process as clean and neat as possible. We use drop cloths to protect your floors and furniture. The small hole for the line set is carefully drilled and then completely sealed and weatherproofed after the lines are run. On the exterior of your home, we typically encase the line set in a slim plastic channel called a line hide. This protects the lines from damage and can be painted to match your home’s siding, creating a very clean and unobtrusive look.
The entire installation for a single zone system is usually completed in less than a day. A more complex multi zone system might take one to two days. Throughout the process, our technicians work efficiently and professionally, respecting your home and your time. We clean up our work area thoroughly before we leave. Most homeowners are pleasantly surprised at how quick and non disruptive the mini split installation process is compared to what they might have imagined.
Mini splits require regular maintenance to keep them operating at peak efficiency, but much of the basic maintenance is very easy for a homeowner to perform. The most important task is cleaning the filters on the indoor units. Unlike central systems that have a single filter, each mini split indoor head has its own reusable filter. These filters are easily accessible by lifting the front panel of the unit. They should be removed, washed with water, allowed to dry completely, and then reinserted every four to six weeks. Keeping these filters clean is crucial for good airflow and high efficiency.
Beyond the filter cleaning that you can do yourself, it is highly recommended to have your mini split system professionally serviced by a qualified technician at least once a year. During a professional maintenance visit, our technician will perform a much deeper cleaning and inspection. We will thoroughly clean the indoor unit’s blower wheel and the delicate evaporator coil, which can accumulate dirt and grime that you cannot reach. We will also perform a deep cleaning of the outdoor condenser coil to ensure maximum heat transfer.
Our professional service also includes tasks that a homeowner cannot do. We will check and tighten all electrical connections, test the system’s capacitors, and inspect the condensate drain line to ensure it is clear and flowing properly. We will also check the system’s refrigerant charge to make sure it is at the correct level for optimal performance. This annual professional tune up, combined with your regular filter cleaning, will keep your mini split system running efficiently and reliably for many years.
No, modern ductless mini split systems are renowned for being exceptionally quiet. This is one of their most popular features. The indoor units, or heads, operate at a volume that is often described as whisper quiet. On their lowest fan setting, they are virtually silent, producing a sound level as low as 19 decibels, which is quieter than the rustling of leaves. This makes them an ideal choice for bedrooms, home offices, or any space where peace and quiet is a priority. You can enjoy comfortable temperatures without the distracting noise of a loud air conditioner.
The outdoor unit, or condenser, is also designed to be significantly quieter than a traditional central air conditioner condenser. The compressor, which is the main source of noise in any AC system, is housed in a sound insulated cabinet. The advanced inverter technology allows the compressor and fan to run at variable speeds, so they are often running at a much lower, quieter speed than a conventional unit that simply turns on and off at full blast. This makes a big difference in the amount of noise you and your neighbors will experience.
During the installation process, we also take steps to minimize any potential noise. We ensure the outdoor unit is placed on a solid, level pad that will not vibrate. We can also install vibration absorbing feet under the unit. We will work with you to select a location for the outdoor unit that is away from bedroom windows or outdoor living spaces to further ensure a quiet and peaceful home environment. The quiet operation of a mini split system is a major upgrade in comfort that our Clarksville customers consistently appreciate.
While it may be tempting to try and save money with a DIY mini split installation, it is strongly discouraged unless you are a licensed HVAC professional. Installing a mini split is a complex process that involves working with high voltage electricity and high pressure refrigerant, both of which can be extremely dangerous for an untrained individual. A mistake during the electrical wiring can create a serious fire hazard. An improper refrigerant connection can lead to a leak of high pressure gas, which can cause severe frostbite injuries.
Beyond the safety risks, a proper installation requires specialized and expensive tools that most homeowners do not own. These include a vacuum pump, a micron gauge, a set of refrigerant gauges, a flaring tool, and a torque wrench. For example, achieving a deep vacuum in the refrigerant lines is absolutely critical for the system’s efficiency and longevity. Without the right tools and knowledge, it is impossible to do this correctly. An improper installation will almost certainly lead to poor performance, high energy bills, and premature failure of the system.
Furthermore, virtually all manufacturer warranties are void if the system is not installed by a licensed HVAC contractor. This means if any part of your new system fails, even due to a manufacturing defect, you will be responsible for the full cost of the repair. The potential savings of a DIY installation are quickly wiped out by a single major repair bill. By hiring a professional team like Barney’s Heating and Air, you are ensuring a safe, efficient, and reliable installation that is backed by both our workmanship guarantee and the full manufacturer’s warranty.
