A/C had been out for a couple days. Heat index 105° , 90 ° in house. I called 15 + HVAC companies and the earliest appointment time anybody could come was a week away. I called Barneys . He shot me straight and told me " I'll get you up and going today but it's going to be in the evening." He showed up about 7 pm which is perfectly fine as it was hot. He fixed the problem in 15 mins ( needed refrigerant ) He charged a very fair price. He stands by his word. LIFESAVER!! VERY COOL NOW!!!

Jake and the team were excellent! They were able to get the unit installed and made all requested adjustments, even after the installation! They will definitely be our "GO TO" for any heating needs!
I contacted them and within 45 minutes Jacob arrived ready and prepared to look at our A/c unit. Fair priced, friendly, efficient and careful to not misdiagnose the issue.
Excellent service! I called After 5 PM with a down AC unit looking for a diagnostic visit with possible fix. He offered same day and next day options. When he came out and completed the diagnostic, he said he could fix it right away. It Took him less than 30 minutes to get my unit running. Plus it was extremely affordable! Highly recommend, and will definitely use for any future services. Thank you so much!

Called the morning after July 4th and they were able to come out right away. He was prompt, courteous, and communicated updates from the time I requested him to come out to arrival and the fix. He quickly assessed and fixed the issue we were having with our outside unit and verified it was working before leaving. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! My A/C went out late Friday night and not many companies were wanting to help and look at my unit until after the weekend and holiday was over, but Barney’s heating and air responded ASAP, and was here first thing in the morning on Saturday! The technician gave me an exact time and was here on time, other companies gave me a big time frame/window 8am-6pm and that just didn’t work for us. This company is affordable and willing to work with you. Definitely will call them again!! Thank you!
Didn't stopped coming to work on it till it was fully fixed highly recommend
Service was AMAZING!!! Especially on a weekend. Found the issue right away and had our A/C running again. I would highly recommend Barney's Heating and Air over anyone I've dealt with in clarksville. Price was great. We are enrolling in his service care for twice a year service for a great price!!!! Again I would recommend him over anyone!!!
Barney and his team was professional, on time, and worked with the other foreman (foundation repair) on site in order to get my foundation repaired correctly and removed, then reinstalled new ductwork after the foundation was repaired. Due to his efforts, I was able to have 2 projects done at the same time and for a fraction of the cost in a total of 2 days. Highly recommend.
Technician knew immediately what the problem was, had the needed parts with him, and fixed the problem in less than an hour.
This isn’t just a review, it’s a debt of personal gratitude. These guys came out and replaced the HVAC system in my rental house in absolutely no time flat. They were able to work with me in the kind of way humans should work with one other, when it really counts. I am extremely grateful for their help with this project, and they have 100% earned all of my future business - barre none
First time (in this house) getting our heat pump inspected. Technician was detailed in explaining what was both good & bad about our 12 year-old system. He explained that our system was still functional but also showed us a part that might fail in the future. He tested the part in our presence & gave us a fair price for replacement (which we did). We were comfortable enough with the service that we are likely to purchase a service/maintenance agreement this Fall.
Excellent service from an honest professional. No one likes having to get an AC replaced, but Barney’s makes it less painful. Extremely responsive (at any time you need him), he will be honest, fair, and provide you a range of options without the up-sale you’d get elsewhere. His work is top notch quality, this is the 3rd time we have used him for our rentals and will continue to do so in the future. Highly recommend for your AC/HVAC needs.
PLUMBERS, Too! I just bought a house and didn’t know the pipes were clogged, the tub had a slow flow, and that the faucets were offset. In addition to heating and cooling, Jake has plumbers on hand. He and his crew did a good job, were friendly, and easy to communicate with.
The communication, fast response, and customer service is what will bring me back. I will definitely call them again to schedule my yearly unit cleaning and any repairs that come up. Highly recommend! Thank you guys!

Local company with great working knowledge. We had a heat bank out in our furnace which they troubleshot and fixed within the week (had to order parts). Heat is now working in the house and we appreciate the service!
I was having problems with my HVAC system and I called these guys to come check it out. Bobby and Jacob are very down to Earth guys. Bobby was very upfront about what issues I had with my system and gave me recommendations without feeling like they were trying to push anything on me. I was impressed with the knowledge he had and how fair their pricing was. I'm a single woman that lives alone with my children and I did not once feel uncomfortable with them or feel like they were trying to get over on me. They ended up installing a new unit in my home and did an amazing job. I have not had one issue with it since. I would def. recommend this company to anyone I know! Thank you guys!!

Gas Line Installation
The planning and design phase is the first and most important step in any gas line installation. Our process begins with understanding your specific needs. We determine which appliances you need to connect, such as a new furnace, a gas stove, a water heater, or an outdoor grill. The total gas demand of all your appliances helps us determine the correct pipe size needed. We carefully plan the route for the new gas line. The goal is to find the most direct and efficient path while avoiding any potential obstacles. This meticulous planning ensures the system will be both safe and effective.
Sizing the gas pipe correctly is a critical calculation that ensures your appliances work properly. A gas line that is too small will not be able to deliver enough fuel. This can cause your appliances to underperform or not work at all. An undersized line can starve an appliance for gas, leading to inefficient and potentially unsafe operation. We use detailed pipe sizing charts and formulas based on the length of the pipe run and the total BTU load of the appliances. This guarantees that your gas system can deliver adequate volume and pressure to every connection point. We never use guesswork for this crucial step.
We use only high quality, approved materials for all our gas line installations. The most common material for interior gas piping is black iron pipe. This is a heavy, durable steel pipe that is the industry standard for natural gas and propane systems. We cut and thread each section of pipe with precision to create secure connections. All threaded connections are sealed with a special pipe dope that is rated for gas use. This ensures a tight, leak proof seal at every joint. For some applications, such as underground lines for an outdoor grill, we may use special polyethylene (PE) pipe, which is resistant to corrosion.
The installation itself is performed with the utmost care and precision by our licensed technicians. We follow the planned route, securely fastening the pipe to your home’s structure. The pipe must be properly supported to prevent sagging and stress on the joints. We take care to maintain proper clearance from any sources of ignition or electrical wiring. When we need to drill holes to run the pipe through walls or floors, we do so cleanly and safely. Our team works diligently and respects your property throughout the installation process. We maintain a clean and organized work area from start to finish.
Connecting the new gas line to your appliances is a critical step. We install a dedicated shutoff valve at every appliance connection point. This allows you to turn off the gas to a single appliance for service without having to shut down the entire system. These connections are made carefully to ensure they are secure and leak free. We use flexible appliance connectors where appropriate, such as for a gas range or dryer. These connectors allow for some movement of the appliance without stressing the gas pipe. Every connection we make is double checked for tightness.
The final and most important step of any gas line installation is the pressure test. This is a non negotiable safety procedure that verifies the integrity of the entire system. After the installation is complete, we cap off the end of the line and pressurize the entire piping system with air to a level much higher than its normal operating pressure. We then attach a pressure gauge and let the system sit for a specified period. If the pressure gauge does not drop at all, it confirms that the system is completely free of leaks. Only after a successful pressure test will we introduce gas into the new line.
A professionally installed gas line provides you with a safe and reliable fuel source for your home’s appliances. Natural gas is an efficient and often cost effective energy source for heating, water heating, and cooking. Adding a new gas line can increase the functionality of your home, allowing you to add features like a gas fireplace, a pool heater, or an outdoor kitchen. It can also increase your home’s resale value. With a professional installation from our team, you can have complete peace of mind knowing that your gas system was installed to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Most Common Gas Line Installation Questions
Installing or extending a gas line is a job that must be handled by a professional. Homeowners often have important questions about this process. Here are some answers to the most common inquiries regarding gas line installation.
There are several common scenarios where a homeowner would need a new gas line installed. One of the most frequent reasons is when you are switching from an electric appliance to a gas powered one. For example, many people prefer the precise temperature control of a gas stove over an electric one. If your kitchen was not originally plumbed for a gas range, you would need a new gas line run from your existing system to the kitchen. The same applies to switching from an electric water heater or clothes dryer to a gas model.
Another common reason is to add a new gas appliance to your home where one did not exist before. Perhaps you want to add the warmth and ambiance of a gas fireplace to your living room. Or maybe you are creating an outdoor living space and want to install a built in gas grill or a fire pit. Other popular additions include gas powered pool heaters or backup home generators. All of these additions require a new, dedicated gas line to be run to the location of the new appliance. Our team can help you plan and install the gas lines for any of these home improvement projects.
In some cases, you may need to replace or reroute an existing gas line. Older homes may have gas pipes that have started to corrode or leak over time. A gas leak is a serious safety hazard that requires immediate attention and repair, which may involve replacing a section of the pipe. You might also need to move a gas line during a home renovation project. For example, if you are remodeling your kitchen and changing the layout, the gas line for the stove may need to be moved to a new location. Any modification to your existing gas piping requires the expertise of a licensed professional.
Natural gas itself is a safe and efficient fuel source when it is handled properly. It is used to power appliances in millions of homes across the country every day without incident. The danger associated with natural gas arises only when it leaks. A gas leak can create two primary hazards. The first and most well known hazard is the risk of an explosion or fire. If natural gas leaks into an enclosed space and mixes with the air, it can become flammable. A small spark from a light switch or an appliance could ignite the gas. This is why proper installation and leak prevention are so critical.
The second hazard is the risk of asphyxiation. While natural gas is not toxic to breathe in the same way carbon monoxide is, it can displace the oxygen in a room. If a large amount of gas leaks into a confined area, it can lower the oxygen level to a point where it becomes difficult or impossible to breathe. This is why it is so important to have carbon monoxide detectors in your home, as they can also sometimes detect other gases that displace oxygen. The best way to prevent these dangers is to ensure your gas lines are installed and maintained by qualified professionals.
To make leaks easier to detect, utility companies add a chemical called mercaptan to the naturally odorless gas. This gives it a distinct smell, often compared to rotten eggs or sulfur. If you ever smell this odor in your home, you should treat it as an emergency. Do not use any phones or electronics, evacuate the house immediately, and call 911 and your gas company from a safe location. With proper installation, regular inspections, and cautious awareness, natural gas can be used very safely in your home.
The process of installing a new gas line begins with a thorough planning and consultation phase. A licensed technician from our team will visit your home to discuss your project. We will identify the location for the new appliance and determine the best route for the new gas line. We will then perform a load calculation. This involves adding up the BTU ratings of all your existing and new gas appliances to ensure the entire system is sized correctly. Based on this information, we will provide you with a detailed proposal and a clear, upfront price for the installation.
Once you approve the project, we will schedule the installation. If required by the project’s scope, we will handle the process of pulling a permit from the local building department. On the installation day, our technicians will arrive and begin by shutting off the gas supply to your home for safety. We will then run the new pipe along the planned route. This involves cutting and threading sections of black iron pipe and connecting them with sealed fittings. We securely strap the pipe to your home’s structure to ensure it is stable and properly supported.
After the new line is run and connected to the appliance location, we perform the critical pressure test. We pressurize the new line with air and use a gauge to ensure it is 100 percent leak free. This is a mandatory safety step. Once the line passes the test, we will make the final connection to your main gas line and to the new appliance. We will then restore the gas supply, purge the air from the new line, and test the new appliance to ensure it is working correctly. We perform a final leak check on all our connections with an electronic gas detector before we consider the job complete.
No, you should absolutely never attempt to install a gas line yourself. This is not a DIY project under any circumstances. Working with gas lines is extremely dangerous and requires specialized knowledge, tools, and training. A small mistake in a gas line installation can have catastrophic consequences, including fires, explosions, and serious injury or death. The risks are simply far too high to be undertaken by anyone other than a licensed and experienced professional. There is no room for error when it comes to gas piping.
In addition to the immense safety risks, it is also illegal in most places for an unlicensed individual to work on gas lines. Gas line installation is governed by strict local and national fuel gas codes. These codes are complex and cover everything from pipe material and size to connection methods and clearance requirements. A licensed professional is trained in these codes and ensures that all work is compliant. An improper installation will not pass a building inspection and could void your homeowner’s insurance policy. If an incident were to occur due to faulty DIY work, your insurance would likely not cover the damages.
Professional gas fitters have the correct tools and materials for the job. We use professional grade pipe threaders, wrenches, and leak detection equipment. We know which types of sealant are approved for gas use and how to apply them correctly. We are trained to perform pressure tests to guarantee the system is safe. Attempting this work without the proper tools and expertise is a recipe for disaster. For the safety of yourself, your family, and your property, always hire a licensed and insured professional for any gas line work.
The most common and widely approved material for interior gas lines in residential homes is black iron pipe. This is a type of steel pipe that is named for the dark, iron oxide scale that forms on its surface during manufacturing. Black iron pipe is extremely strong and durable, making it very resistant to punctures and damage. It is the industry standard for both natural gas and propane distribution within a building. It is joined together using threaded fittings that are sealed with a special pipe joint compound, or pipe dope, that is specifically rated for gas.
Another material that is sometimes used is corrugated stainless steel tubing, or CSST. CSST is a flexible pipe that comes in long rolls. It is easier and faster to install than rigid black iron pipe because it can be bent around corners, reducing the number of fittings needed. However, it requires special training and proprietary tools to install correctly. It is also more susceptible to damage from lightning strikes if not properly bonded. While it is an approved material, many plumbers still prefer the proven durability and strength of black iron pipe for most applications.
For underground gas lines, such as a line running to an outdoor grill or pool heater, the most common material used today is high density polyethylene (PE) pipe. This is a type of durable plastic pipe that is yellow in color to indicate that it carries gas. PE pipe is resistant to corrosion, making it ideal for direct burial in the ground. It is joined together using a process called heat fusion, which creates a seamless, leak proof bond. It cannot be used for interior or above ground piping. The transition from underground PE pipe to above ground metal pipe is made with a special fitting called a transition riser.
Testing for gas leaks after an installation is the most critical safety step in the entire process. We perform multiple tests to ensure the system is completely sealed and safe. The primary and most definitive test is the pressure test. Before any gas is introduced into the newly installed pipe, we seal off the entire section. We then use an air compressor to fill the pipe with compressed air to a specific pressure, which is much higher than the normal operating pressure of the gas system. A pressure gauge is attached to the pipe.
Once the pipe is pressurized, it is left to sit for a period of time as required by local code, typically at least 15 to 30 minutes. During this time, we watch the needle on the pressure gauge very closely. If there is even a tiny leak anywhere in the system, the pressure inside the pipe will slowly drop, and the needle on the gauge will move. If the needle does not move at all during the test period, it provides positive proof that the piping is 100 percent airtight and free of leaks. We will not proceed with the installation until the system passes this pressure test perfectly.
After a successful pressure test, we will connect the new line to the gas supply. Once gas is in the pipe, we perform a second round of checks as a final verification. We use an electronic combustible gas detector, often called a “gas sniffer.” This highly sensitive tool can detect even trace amounts of natural gas in the air. We run the probe of this detector over every single joint, fitting, and connection we made. If the detector sounds an alarm, it indicates a potential leak that needs to be addressed. We also often use a soap bubble solution, which is applied to the joints and will bubble up if gas is escaping.
Yes, in virtually all municipalities, including Clarksville and Montgomery County, a permit is required for any new gas line installation or for significant modifications to an existing gas system. This is considered a major plumbing and mechanical project with significant safety implications. The permitting process is a crucial consumer protection measure. It ensures that the work is performed by a licensed contractor and that it will be inspected by an independent, third party city or county inspector. This inspection verifies that the installation complies with all current fuel gas safety codes.
As your professional and licensed contractor, Barney’s Heating and Air will handle the entire permitting process for you. We are registered with the local building departments and are familiar with their specific requirements and procedures. We will draw up the necessary plans, fill out all the application forms, and submit them for approval. We will also pay the permit fees, which will be included as a line item in your project proposal. Our goal is to make the process completely seamless and worry free for you. We will ensure all the necessary paperwork is in order before we begin any work.
The inspection is a key part of the process. An inspector will typically need to see the work before it is concealed by drywall or other finishes. They will verify that the correct materials were used, that the pipe is sized and supported properly, and they will witness the pressure test. Working without a permit is illegal and unsafe. It can lead to fines, insurance issues, and problems when you sell your home. A permitted and inspected job provides you with the official documentation and the peace of mind that your gas line was installed to the highest standards of safety.
Yes, we frequently install gas lines for a wide variety of outdoor appliances. Extending a natural gas or propane line to your backyard can greatly enhance your outdoor living space. One of the most popular requests is for a gas line for a built in barbecue grill or an outdoor kitchen. This eliminates the need to ever have to refill propane tanks again. You have a constant, reliable supply of fuel for your grill. We can run the line to the exact location of your outdoor kitchen and provide a safe and convenient connection point.
Another popular outdoor feature is a gas fire pit or fireplace. A gas fire pit provides instant ambiance and warmth at the flick of a switch. There is no need to deal with the hassle and smoke of a wood burning fire. We can install an underground gas line to the desired location of your fire pit in your patio or yard. We ensure the installation is done safely and to code, with proper clearances and shutoff valves. We can also install gas lines for outdoor heaters, which can extend the use of your patio into the cooler months.
Other outdoor appliances we can connect include pool and spa heaters. A gas heater can warm up a pool or spa much more quickly than an electric heat pump, allowing you to enjoy it more often. We also install gas lines for whole home backup generators. A natural gas powered generator can provide seamless, automatic power to your home during an outage. Whatever your outdoor project plans are, our team can provide the professional gas line installation you need to power your appliances safely and reliably.
