A/C had been out for a couple days. Heat index 105° , 90 ° in house. I called 15 + HVAC companies and the earliest appointment time anybody could come was a week away. I called Barneys . He shot me straight and told me " I'll get you up and going today but it's going to be in the evening." He showed up about 7 pm which is perfectly fine as it was hot. He fixed the problem in 15 mins ( needed refrigerant ) He charged a very fair price. He stands by his word. LIFESAVER!! VERY COOL NOW!!!

Excellent service! I called After 5 PM with a down AC unit looking for a diagnostic visit with possible fix. He offered same day and next day options. When he came out and completed the diagnostic, he said he could fix it right away. It Took him less than 30 minutes to get my unit running. Plus it was extremely affordable! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! My A/C went out late Friday night and not many companies were wanting to help and look at my unit until after the weekend and holiday was over, but Barney’s heating and air responded ASAP, and was here first thing in the morning on Saturday! The technician gave me an exact time and was here on time, other companies gave me a big time frame/window 8am-6pm and that just didn’t work for us. This company is affordable and willing to work with you. Definitely will call them again!! Thank you!
Didn't stopped coming to work on it till it was fully fixed highly recommend
Service was AMAZING!!! Especially on a weekend. Found the issue right away and had our A/C running again. I would highly recommend Barney's Heating and Air over anyone I've dealt with in clarksville. Price was great. We are enrolling in his service care for twice a year service for a great price!!!! Again I would recommend him over anyone!!!
Barney and his team was professional, on time, and worked with the other foreman (foundation repair) on site in order to get my foundation repaired correctly and removed, then reinstalled new ductwork after the foundation was repaired. Due to his efforts, I was able to have 2 projects done at the same time and for a fraction of the cost in a total of 2 days. Highly recommend.
Technician knew immediately what the problem was, had the needed parts with him, and fixed the problem in less than an hour.
This isn’t just a review, it’s a debt of personal gratitude. These guys came out and replaced the HVAC system in my rental house in absolutely no time flat. They were able to work with me in the kind of way humans should work with one other, when it really counts. I am extremely grateful for their help with this project, and they have 100% earned all of my future business - barre none
First time (in this house) getting our heat pump inspected. Technician was detailed in explaining what was both good & bad about our 12 year-old system. He explained that our system was still functional but also showed us a part that might fail in the future. He tested the part in our presence & gave us a fair price for replacement (which we did). We were comfortable enough with the service that we are likely to purchase a service/maintenance agreement this Fall.
Excellent service from an honest professional. No one likes having to get an AC replaced, but Barney’s makes it less painful. Extremely responsive (at any time you need him), he will be honest, fair, and provide you a range of options without the up-sale you’d get elsewhere. His work is top notch quality, this is the 3rd time we have used him for our rentals and will continue to do so in the future. Highly recommend for your AC/HVAC needs.
PLUMBERS, Too! I just bought a house and didn’t know the pipes were clogged, the tub had a slow flow, and that the faucets were offset. In addition to heating and cooling, Jake has plumbers on hand. He and his crew did a good job, were friendly, and easy to communicate with.
The communication, fast response, and customer service is what will bring me back. I will definitely call them again to schedule my yearly unit cleaning and any repairs that come up. Highly recommend! Thank you guys!

Local company with great working knowledge. We had a heat bank out in our furnace which they troubleshot and fixed within the week (had to order parts). Heat is now working in the house and we appreciate the service!
I was having problems with my HVAC system and I called these guys to come check it out. Bobby and Jacob are very down to Earth guys. Bobby was very upfront about what issues I had with my system and gave me recommendations without feeling like they were trying to push anything on me. I was impressed with the knowledge he had and how fair their pricing was. I'm a single woman that lives alone with my children and I did not once feel uncomfortable with them or feel like they were trying to get over on me. Gas Line Maintenance
Proper gas line maintenance is a non negotiable safety measure for any home with gas appliances. Our service begins with a thorough visual inspection of all accessible gas piping. We look for signs of corrosion, damage, or improper installation that could compromise the system’s integrity. Technicians check for proper support and clearance of the gas lines to prevent strain and potential breaks. We also inspect the flexible gas connectors that link your appliances to the main gas supply. These connectors can degrade over time and are a common source of leaks if not monitored. The entire inspection process is designed to identify potential issues early. Early detection is key to preventing dangerous situations like carbon monoxide poisoning or fires.
Following the visual inspection, our technicians perform a series of pressure tests to detect any leaks. This involves isolating sections of the gas system and pressurizing them with air. A specialized gauge is used to monitor the pressure over a set period. Any drop in pressure indicates a leak somewhere within that section of the piping. This method is highly effective for finding even the smallest, otherwise undetectable leaks. Locating these leaks is critical for maintaining a safe home environment. Our team is equipped with the latest tools to perform these tests accurately and efficiently. We ensure your entire gas system is sealed and secure.
Appliance connections and shutoff valves are another critical focus of our maintenance service. We ensure that each gas appliance is connected correctly and that the shutoff valve is accessible and functional. A working shutoff valve is essential for quickly stopping the gas flow in an emergency. Our technicians test these valves to confirm they operate smoothly and close completely. We also clean and lubricate valves as needed to prevent them from seizing up over time. This attention to detail ensures every component of your gas system is in optimal condition. You can rely on our expertise to keep your system safe and dependable.
The venting systems for your gas appliances are also a key part of our maintenance checklist. Proper venting is crucial for appliances like furnaces, water heaters, and fireplaces. These vents carry harmful combustion byproducts, like carbon monoxide, safely out of your home. We inspect these vents for blockages, corrosion, or disconnections that could cause dangerous fumes to build up indoors. Debris from birds’ nests or other sources can easily obstruct a vent. Our team ensures all vents are clear and properly configured according to safety codes. This step is vital for protecting your family’s health.
During our maintenance visit, we also take the time to educate homeowners on gas safety. We show you where the main gas shutoff valve for your home is located. We also explain how to operate it in case of an emergency. Understanding how to turn off your gas supply can be life saving knowledge. Our technicians can answer any questions you have about your gas system or appliances. We believe an informed homeowner is a safer homeowner. This commitment to education is part of our comprehensive approach to service. We want you to feel confident and secure in your home.
Sediment traps, or drip legs, are another important component we inspect and service. These are installed on the gas line just before an appliance to catch any moisture or debris. This prevents foreign material from entering and damaging the appliance’s sensitive gas controls. Our technicians will check and clean out these sediment traps as needed. This simple maintenance step can prevent costly appliance repairs and improve performance. It is a detail that is often overlooked but is essential for the longevity of your equipment. We ensure every part of your system is functioning as it should.
Finally, upon completion of our maintenance service, we provide a detailed report of our findings. This report outlines the condition of your gas line system and any recommendations for repairs or improvements. We believe in complete transparency with our customers. You will have a clear understanding of the work we performed and the status of your system. This documentation is also useful for your records and for future service visits. Our goal is to provide a thorough, professional, and trustworthy gas line maintenance service. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of our Clarksville community.

Most Common Gas Line Maintenance Questions
Regular gas line maintenance is a critical service for any homeowner with gas powered appliances. It involves a comprehensive inspection and testing of your entire gas piping system to ensure it operates safely and efficiently. Before scheduling a service, many homeowners have questions about the process and its importance.
Scheduling regular professional inspections for your gas lines is one of the most important safety measures for your home. Most experts and utility companies recommend a thorough inspection by a qualified technician at least once every year. This annual checkup allows a professional to identify potential issues like minor leaks, corrosion, or damage to the pipes before they escalate into hazardous situations. An annual schedule ensures that your system is consistently monitored and maintained for optimal safety and performance. It is a proactive approach that provides significant peace of mind for you and your family throughout the year.
There are certain circumstances that may warrant more frequent inspections of your gas lines. If you live in an older home, the piping material may be more susceptible to degradation and should be checked more often. Similarly, if you have recently experienced any seismic activity or ground shifting near your property, an inspection is highly recommended. Any new appliance installation or significant renovation work that could potentially impact the gas lines also calls for a professional check. Listening for unusual hissing sounds or smelling a faint rotten egg odor are immediate red flags. In these cases, you should evacuate and call for an emergency inspection right away.
The environment surrounding your property can also influence the ideal frequency of gas line inspections. For instance, homes in areas with high soil moisture or acidity may experience faster corrosion of underground gas pipes. In these environments, inspections every six months might be a more prudent choice to ensure early detection of any deterioration. Our technicians at Barney’s Heating and Air can assess your specific situation and local environmental factors. We can then provide a tailored recommendation for your maintenance schedule. This personalized approach ensures your gas system receives the appropriate level of care based on its unique conditions and risks.
Recognizing the signs of a gas leak is crucial for the safety of everyone in your household. The most distinct indicator is the smell of rotten eggs or sulfur. Natural gas is odorless, so utility companies add a chemical called mercaptan to give it this specific, unpleasant smell for easy detection. If you notice this odor, it is a strong signal that there may be a gas leak present. Do not ignore this smell; it is the primary warning system for a potentially dangerous situation. Immediate action is required to ensure everyone’s safety. You should never try to locate the source of the leak yourself.
Another sign of a potential gas leak is a hissing or whistling sound near a gas line or appliance. This sound is often caused by gas escaping from a small hole or a loose connection in the piping. Even if you do not smell gas, this audible cue should be taken very seriously. You might also see visible signs of a leak outdoors. Look for blowing dirt, bubbling in wet or flooded areas, or patches of dead or dying vegetation near a buried gas line. These are all indicators that gas may be escaping from an underground pipe and affecting the surrounding environment.
You might also experience physical symptoms if you are exposed to a gas leak. These can include dizziness, fatigue, nausea, headache, and irregular breathing. If you or your family members are suddenly experiencing these symptoms without another explanation, a gas leak could be the cause. In this case, it is critical to get everyone out into fresh air immediately. Do not turn any lights or appliances on or off, and do not use your phone inside the house. Once you are safely outside and a safe distance away, call your gas utility’s emergency number and then Barney’s Heating and Air.
Performing your own gas line maintenance is strongly discouraged due to the significant risks involved. Working with natural gas requires specialized knowledge, tools, and an understanding of complex safety codes. A small mistake, such as improperly tightening a fitting, can lead to a slow, undetected leak. This can create a serious risk of fire, explosion, or carbon monoxide poisoning. Professional technicians undergo extensive training and certification to learn how to handle these systems safely. They are equipped with calibrated instruments to detect leaks and measure pressure accurately. Attempting this work without the proper expertise puts your property and your family in danger.
The legal and insurance implications of DIY gas line work are also substantial. Most municipalities require that any work on gas piping be performed by a licensed and insured professional. If an incident like a fire occurs and it is traced back to unpermitted, amateur gas line work, your homeowner’s insurance claim will likely be denied. This could leave you with devastating financial losses on top of the property damage. Hiring a professional from Barney’s Heating and Air ensures the work is done to code. It also provides a layer of protection as our work is fully insured and guaranteed for your safety and peace of mind.
While you should not perform technical maintenance, there are safety checks you can do. You can visually inspect accessible pipes for any obvious signs of damage or corrosion. You can also ensure the area around your gas meter and appliance vents is clear of debris or obstructions. Knowing the location of your main gas shutoff valve and how to operate it is also crucial. However, any hands on work, including testing for leaks, adjusting connections, or making repairs, must be left to the experts. Trusting a professional is the only way to ensure the job is done correctly and safely, protecting you from potential hazards.
A professional gas line inspection from Barney’s Heating and Air is a comprehensive and meticulous process. It begins with a thorough visual examination of the entire gas piping system, from the meter to each appliance. Our technicians look for any signs of corrosion, physical damage, improper installation, or inadequate support of the pipes. We also check the condition of all flexible gas connectors, which can wear out over time. This initial visual sweep helps us identify any obvious areas of concern that require closer attention. We document every part of your system to ensure a complete and thorough evaluation is performed.
The next and most critical step is leak detection. We use a variety of advanced methods to ensure your system is completely sealed. One primary technique is a pressure test, where we isolate the gas system and use a sensitive gauge to check for any drop in pressure, which would indicate a leak. We also use a handheld electronic gas detector, often called a “sniffer,” to scan every joint, fitting, and connection point. This tool can detect even minute traces of gas in the air. This combination of methods provides a highly accurate and reliable way to confirm the integrity of your gas lines and pinpoint the exact location of any leaks.
Finally, our inspection includes a full safety and performance check of your gas appliances. We verify that each appliance has a proper, functioning shutoff valve and is connected correctly. We also inspect the appliance’s venting system to ensure it is clear of obstructions and is safely removing combustion byproducts from your home. Our technicians will check the operation of the appliances to ensure they are burning gas efficiently and safely. At the end of the inspection, we provide you with a detailed report of our findings. This includes any issues we discovered and our professional recommendations for necessary repairs or safety upgrades.
Investing in regular gas line maintenance is a highly cost effective measure when you consider the potential consequences of neglect. The cost of a routine inspection is minimal compared to the expense of repairing major damage from a fire or explosion. It is also far less than the cost of emergency repairs for a significant leak. Think of maintenance as a small, predictable expense that helps you avoid large, unexpected, and potentially catastrophic costs down the road. It is a proactive investment in the safety of your property and the well being of your family. The peace of mind that comes from knowing your system is safe is invaluable.
The price of gas line maintenance can vary depending on several factors. The size of your home and the complexity of your gas piping system will play a role in the overall cost. A larger home with more gas appliances will naturally take more time to inspect thoroughly. The accessibility of the gas lines can also be a factor. If pipes are located in hard to reach areas like crawl spaces or attics, it may require more labor. However, at Barney’s Heating and Air, we believe in transparent and fair pricing. We provide upfront estimates so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins.
Furthermore, regular maintenance can lead to long term savings. A well maintained gas system operates more efficiently, which can help lower your monthly utility bills. By ensuring there are no leaks and that your appliances are burning fuel optimally, you are not wasting gas. Maintenance also helps extend the lifespan of your expensive gas appliances, such as your furnace and water heater. By catching small issues early, you can prevent them from causing major damage to these units. In this way, the small cost of annual maintenance pays for itself over time through energy savings and avoided repair costs.
If our technician discovers a gas leak during a maintenance visit, our first priority is to ensure your immediate safety. The technician will immediately shut off the gas supply to the affected area or the entire house, depending on the location and severity of the leak. This action stops the flow of gas and prevents a dangerous buildup within your home. We will then advise you on any necessary safety precautions, which may include ventilating the area by opening windows and doors. Our team is trained to handle these situations calmly and professionally, minimizing any risk to you and your property. Your safety is our paramount concern.
Once the immediate area is secured, our technician will pinpoint the exact source of the leak. Using specialized detection equipment, we can identify whether the issue is a loose fitting, a cracked pipe, a faulty valve, or a problem with an appliance connector. After locating the source, we will explain the issue to you in clear, understandable terms. We will outline the necessary repair options and provide you with a detailed, upfront quote for the work. We will not proceed with any repairs until you have approved the plan and the cost. This ensures you are fully informed and in control of the process.
With your approval, our technician will then perform the necessary repairs to permanently fix the leak. Our service vehicles are stocked with a wide range of common parts and materials, allowing us to complete most repairs on the same visit. We use only high quality materials and adhere to all local safety codes to ensure a durable and reliable repair. After the repair is complete, we will perform another thorough pressure test and inspection of the system. This final check verifies that the leak has been resolved and that your entire gas system is safe to operate before we restore the gas supply.
Preparing your home for a gas line maintenance visit is simple and helps our technicians work more efficiently and safely. The most important step is to ensure there is clear access to all relevant areas. This includes the area around your gas meter, furnace, water heater, and any other gas powered appliances. Please remove any boxes, storage items, or other obstructions that might be blocking these areas. If you have gas lines in a crawl space or attic, make sure the entrance to these spaces is accessible. This allows our technicians to move freely and conduct a thorough inspection of the entire system without delays.
It is also helpful to secure any pets before the technician arrives. While our team members are comfortable around animals, having them in a separate, secure room prevents any potential interference with our work. It also ensures the safety of your pets, as we will be moving equipment and may have doors open temporarily. This simple step helps the appointment go smoothly for everyone involved. We appreciate your cooperation in creating a safe and focused work environment for our team. It allows us to dedicate our full attention to the important task of inspecting your gas system.
Finally, it is beneficial to have a list of any concerns you may have about your gas system. If you have noticed any unusual smells, sounds, or appliance performance issues, be sure to mention them to the technician at the beginning of the visit. This information can help guide our inspection and ensure we pay special attention to potential problem areas. Your observations are valuable and can help us diagnose issues more quickly. Being prepared with this information helps us provide you with the most comprehensive and effective service possible. Our goal is to address all of your concerns and ensure your complete satisfaction.
Yes, several different types of materials are used for gas lines, and the type in your home often depends on its age and local building codes. One of the most common materials is black iron pipe. This is a strong and durable option that has been used for decades for interior gas distribution. It is known for its heat resistance and strength, making it a reliable choice. However, it is prone to corrosion if not properly installed and maintained, especially at the threaded joints. Our technicians are highly experienced in working with and inspecting black iron pipe systems to ensure their continued safety and integrity.
Another material you might find is corrugated stainless steel tubing, often referred to as CSST. This flexible piping has become very popular in modern construction because it is easier and faster to install than rigid iron pipe. Its flexibility allows it to be routed around obstacles without numerous fittings, which reduces the potential for leaks. However, CSST requires proper bonding and grounding to protect it from damage from lightning strikes, which could create a fire hazard. Our maintenance inspections include verifying that any CSST in your home is installed correctly and meets all current safety standards for bonding.
For underground gas lines that run from the street to your home’s meter, polyethylene (PE) plastic pipe is the modern standard. This material is highly resistant to corrosion and is flexible, making it ideal for buried applications. You will not typically see this type of piping inside your home. Older homes might have underground lines made of copper or galvanized steel, which are no longer approved for new installations in most areas due to their susceptibility to corrosion. Part of a comprehensive inspection involves understanding the different materials used in your system and their specific maintenance requirements and potential vulnerabilities.
